Komodo Dragon

This Komodo dragon lives on the island of Rinca, pronounced Rincha, a National park, off the coast of Flores in the East Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia.

The Komodo dragon is a monitor lizard and the largest living species of lizard, and can grow to 3 metres (10 ft) and weighs approx. 70 kilograms (150 lb).

They are known for their incredibly toxic bite. They bite their prey, then follow it until it falters and dies. They eat mainly deer, but are known to eat buffalo and lesser animals such as monkeys and enjoy carrion as well. They do not eat the heads of horned animals (seen in previous post) This video shows their hunting technique.

They are known to attack humans. You can not walk in the National Park of Rinca island without a guide who possesses a long forked stick and listen carefully to the safety briefing about how to run away if attacked.
