Pura Batu Bolong

Batu Bolong temple is near to the temple in the photograph that I posted yesterday, 'Pura Tanah Lot'. This temple 'Pura Batu Bolong' is another of seven sea temples around the Balinese coast. It has been a part of Balinese mythology for centuries. Each temple was within eyesight of the next to form a chain along the south-western coast.

'It is believed that virgins were once sacrificed to the sea from the highest point of the temple’s outcrop.' Source : Bali Why Go

The rock underneath the temple has an arch which has been carved out over the centuries by the sea; hence the name batu bolong which in Balinese means ‘rock with hole’.

@Devi: Thanks Devi. Yes, enchanting is a good word. If you avoid the tourist areas, one is immediately embraced and pleasantly immersed in their special Hindu culture. A beautiful country with beautiful people.
