The March of the Ogoh Ogoh

Posted by
: Helen : (ATM Helen is photographing in, Australia) on 30 March 2016 in Lifestyle & Culture.

Here is a photograph of the parade of the fearsome Ogoh Ogoh.

This great event occurs all over Bali the evening prior to Nyepi (their new year begins on the new moon, or more correctly for the Balinese, the dead moon.

These rituals and ceremonies celebrate the death of the evil and bad spirits of the past year in an attempt to cleanse people of their negative energies.

Community teams from local districts make their own Ogoh Ogoh who then parade their monster through the town. The huge monsters are mounted on bamboo grids and carried by the fittest in the village. 16 to 20 men carry the platform.
