The day prior to Nyepi (the day of silence) is when people purify or rid their world of demons.
At 4:00pm, a magnificently loud clattering began! Everywhere in town, in houses, shop and hotels, people files behind a chanting leader carrying a flaming torch, banging, clanging and clattering saucepans and metal gongs.
This was the beginning of the purification ceremony to wake and stir any demons lurking in the surrounds. Bounteous offerings and sacrifices were lain at hearths and entryways to ensure they were purged from the environment and well fed on the way out.
I will respond to your kind comments as soon as I can. Thanks for dropping by!
