Pura Besakih

Pura Besakih or the Mother Temple is the most important, largest and most holy Hindu temple on Bali Island.

Sprawling on the side of Mount Agung or Gunung Agung, the principal volcano on Bali. I was astonished to discover that some of the temples in the 23 temple complex date from prehistoric times, with some of the original constructions resembling stepped pyramids!

As always, I search behind the scenes.

Here we see the 'fruit ladies' waiting to sell their wares to unwitting tourists climbing the stairs in front of them.
