*** Series - Nepal - Final tribute ***
Pashupatinath is a significant Hindu cremation site. When a person dies their body is wrapped in cloth, generally white cloth and covered with bright orange material. The body is carried on a litter made from bamboo.
The sons and other males carry the body to the cremation site. In this photograph you can see one a grieving family pass along the ghats to their cremation site, whilst the other family wait for the cremation to be complete.
The sons have their hair shaved, then eldest son performs the cremation ceremony prior to the fire being lit. Once the cremation is complete, the ashes are swept into the Bagmati river which flows into the Ganges.
I will respond to your kind comments as soon as I can. Thanks for dropping by!
