Rocamadour - XI

We look down from the fortress into the courtyard of the religious city below. It is here we can see the vulnerablity of the pilgrims below in times of war.

The fortress is perched on a cliff edge rising out of the green canyon or the 'Dark Valley' of the river Alzou which you can see broiling far below.

The fortress protected both the pilgrims and their destination, as well as, the village far below from attack below and from the hilltop behind the fortified walls.
