*** NEW SERIES ***

I invite you to join me in another series. This time we are investigating a small picturesque village, Rocamadour, buried deep in the French country-side of Quercy. If you'd like to start at the beginning of the series CLICK HERE.

Next episode ...............................................

Finally the stair! There before us lies the Sacred Stair, hand-chiseled from stone containing fossils and shells of ancient sea creatures. The stair snakes its way up the steep cliff towards the fortifications that protect the Sanctuary that lies concealed behind the walls.

We are surrounded by the bustle of pilgrims who have made the journey from around the known world to this place where many miralcles have occurred. The faithful pray and in an act of penance sink down to complete their pilgrimmage up the the 216 steps on their knees.

We stop at the first grand turn in the stair to consider the 'Dark Valley' and the village that now lies far below. It is here that we find Roland's sword 'Durendal' embedded into the stone of the cliff face.
