After the excitement of spotting a few animals we spent quite a while without a viewing. Lulled into a state of 'enjoying the scenery' I was suddenly startled by the guide who leapt up and pointed to the right into the trees. I swung my camera around and clicked. (see photograph here) I couldn't see anything at all!
Suddenly I saw it, a rhinoceros!
The Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) became unsettled at the jeep rolling to a stop nearby and, grass in mouth, began moving more and more quickly until it doubled back and ran around onto the road, leaving a trail of dust in the air. I was as exhilarated as scared as this unpredictable monolithic animal belted across the road in front of us. I hoped that it wouldn't take it into its head to attack the jeep.
It stopped and considered its options, then thankfully it ran off away to the left into the cover of the forest. It was then the guide shared another experience with us. I am so glad I had not see or heard about this video before I joined the safari! (View the video here).
I will respond to your kind comments as soon as I can. Thanks for dropping by!
