Nepali New Year and Bisket Jatra - Bhaktapur 4

Once the chariot finally arrives in the Khalna Tole, a huge 25 metre/80 foot pole called Yeo-sin deo, is erected. The pole is in fact a huge lingam (phallic symbol) which is placed in a stone yoni (female genital symbol) base.

The honor of mounting the yoni during this process is great and causes a great deal of scuffling and vying for position. This year the riot police cleared the area for a period to calm the crowd after scuffles broke out.
