If you are one of my regular visitors you will know I walk around a lake and annually experience and photograph the life cycle of the swamp hens and their chicks.
This all begins when a couple make a messy squat in the thick reeds. This squat is what I now call the 'love nest'. it is where the courting begins and it is later built up to a monstrous mound to keep the chicks safe from land predators and out of the water.
As I walked by I heard them crooning and only spotted them due to their red flashed beaks. So I squatted down to listen and wait for a minute in case there was a photo to be had, when ...... more tomorrow ...
PS sorry about the quality of this image. I don't know why it turned out so badly when I reduced the size. Haven't got time to fix it now ... Got together off to work.
