I love your b&w conversion Helen and the compo is good too. I like the shallow depth of field also, but wish the foreground was just a little sharper.

I'm all to familiar with the term "numb nuts", but Gum Nuts is a new one. This looks like pottery to me, but obviously the hangover from the one beer I had with dinner last night is affecting me more than I anticipated.
I kind of like the accentuated rule of thirds composition with the four pods (at this point I've made the assumption it's a plant - am I even close?) on the right and the blurred background. A neat idea (it's neat because it's an idea; in practice it might turn out to be crap) would be to angle the shot to see the insde of these pods, and use a hand-held flash to light 'em up during the shot.
I'm going to try some macro work today - wish me luck.
