Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesGreat abstract! It looks like an aerial photo of a rocky landscape...and I suppose in a way it is. 22 Aug 2009 2:14pm Tony Duque from Raleigh, United StatesWonderful shot Helen! As a geologist, I first saw a chunk of basalt with a quarter-inch phenochryst in the middle, but then it took on that aerial photo look Chris mentioned... with a small river flowing to the right... out of the lake where the huge stony metrorite was lodged. I'm sticking with my first (more reasonable) guess. Thanks for sharing your very interesting picture with us! 23 Aug 2009 7:45pm @Tony Duque: Thanks for your interesting comment Tony. I spend quite a deal of time browsing over this intertidal rock platform. It is a fascinating as the platform is not large, yet it is varied in composition revealing it's volcanic past. As well as the black basalt in this picture, you can see red rock, and interesting areas that have what looks like seams of iron running dividing the segments of rock. (YOu can tell I am not a geologist!) Michael Rawluk h from CanadaThat is very cool. It could be the head of a dinosaur. 24 Aug 2009 1:28am |
