Spitfires on alert

A spitfire is not a true caterpillar but is a larva of the Sawfly - Perga dorsalis. Sawflies are not flies either, they are actually a wasp.
The larvae are about 25 mm long and move in clusters . Thet are a pest and cause damage to eucalypt trees. More info here
