Lorikeet Story 2
Posted by Helen (Melbourne, Australia) on 15 January 2008 in Animal & Insect.
Many arguments ensued!
-------------------------------------------------
This story is in memory of a little Rainbow Lorikeet that died in our apple tree. (Stop here if you do not like sad tales).
We have an apple tree in our front garden. As you can see in the above photograph, we have never managed to harvest a crop of apples as we compete with the Eastern Rosellas, Rainbow Lorikeets (pictured above) and Galahs, not to mention the possums who annually manage to raid the whole crop the evening before the apples are ready to pick.
This year my husband bought nets to protect the apples from marauders. After a few days away, we returned home to find a Rainbow Lorikeet dead with his claw tangled in the net. We were both very upset. My husband ripped the net off the tree. Over the next few days I will post some of the chaotic antics that have been occurring in what we now call the "apple core tree" in memory of our little friend that lost his life trying to eat the forbidden fruit.
