Bird on a Wire [1/4]Posted by Helen (Melbourne, Australia) on 29 July 2007 in Animal & Insect. This shot looks better on large. My Mother has a family of Grey Butcher Birds [Cracticus torquatus] living nearby who have visited her for years. Each spring the couple supplement their diet with a little meat or cheese when they are rearing their young. What is he looking at so intently here? You will see on Tuesday. Keep visiting. The Grey Butcher bird has a long beak with a small hook at the tip of the upper beak. I am unsure but I think this is the male. I will post the female tomorrow. If you would like to hear their call there is a great sound file here Constructive feedback is your greatest compliment; caring enough to bother saying something ... thanks for visiting!
