smokey dayPosted by Helen (Melbourne, Australia) on 10 December 2006 in Landscape & Rural. Inspired by Chris Sullivan's Sorrento , I took this photo today. I escaped to the beach as a pall of smoke from the State's bushfires hung in the sky and the temperatures soared. The Environmental Protection Authority, has recorded one of its highest ever levels of smoke over Melbourne. The temperature reached 42 degrees Celcius with a strong North wind. The weekend's bushfires have burned 214,000 hectares already. This was our hottest December day in more than half a century. Stu from Kyoto, Japanvery nice homage to Chris's pic there Helen! Take care with all those fires around mind. 10 Dec 2006 1:56pm Martin from a small village in Lower Austria, AustriaOh very nice shot, I think I wouldn't bear 42 degrees and those fires, yet I like Australia very much. I'm looking forward to seeing more impressions from Australia, good work! 10 Dec 2006 4:52pm Chris Sullivan from Melbourne, AustraliaCheers Helen! Great photo, love the variation in tone of the grasses in the foreground. The smoke was thick along the Peninsular too? The city was suffocating throughout the weekend, opening the front door was like opening the door to a furnace - wish I had the chance to head down to the beach. Hopefully we get some rain to help stop these fires. 10 Dec 2006 10:31pm Damon Schreiber from Toronto, Canada42°? That's insane. Sounds like you could use some rain and some fresh air. It's a bracing 0° as I write this here (warmer indoors). Lovely photo as alway, Helen. 11 Dec 2006 4:23am |
