@AliG: Yes they are the real colours. I was attracted by their white legs. I don't recall seeing an insect with white legs anywhere else.

Wow, the butterflies really give life to the very dull looking background :)
About your question regarding shadows in Photoshop, go to the menu bar on top, click on Image -> Adjustments -> Shadows/highlights. Then just play around with the settings usually in the first group on top :)
